The International Trends and Services (ITS) facet provides services and delivers transformational programs to people of African ancestry globally so that they may have a better quality of life. Programs are designed and developed to service educational, health and cultural needs and to help people emerge from poverty. A primary objective of our international work is to enrich the lives of women and their families from local refugee populations, recently naturalized immigrants from service area countries, and women, children, and families in Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, and African Nations.

Supporting Haitian Families amidst Earthquake and Political Unrest

As opportunities present themselves, ITS conduct programming to support Haitian Resettlement efforts in Houston and, to the extent possible, we collect, compile and ship physical donations (such as Dignity Kits) to Haitians in Haiti.

Supporting Children in African Nations

ITS is exploring a partnership with an NGO working in Africa that would connect Houston-area students with students in African nations as pen pals. This program will support the program theme, offering a healing and empowering creative outlet for black children locally and abroad. It is also a tremendous opportunity for

students to learn about other cultures, nations, customs, and see themselves in their pen pal.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. Given the trials that women of all backgrounds face, this program focused on Healing, Empowering, and Restoring women.

In recognition of International Women’s Day, the ITS Facet hosted an Educational Webinar Series highlighting women’s accomplishments, dispelling myths about our culture and heritage, empowering members of the African Diaspora, and educating webinar participants. Topics included:

  • Study Abroad Opportunities for Students
  • Global Career Opportunities
  • The ABCs of the Continent of Africa
  • An Artistic Journey through the African Diaspora
  • Doing Business Abroad
  • Health Disparities in the Black Community
