STEM EXPOSED! STEM RECOGNIZED! STEM READY!
2022-2024
The Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has continuously focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning for inner city students. Our ability to partner with educators to gain access to students and use the skills and talents of our members is what has allowed us to impact close to 1,800 students in the last 2 years.
Our approach to STEM Readiness is balanced with introductory STEM lessons and advanced STEM concepts which helps us to reach students. Working with parents and educators to encourage them to push the students in areas that they may not have expertise is one of the services we provide to the community.
Our engagement with students include educating them personally and on virtual platforms, tours to universities, field trips to Houston museums, and in person workshops. Many of our Chapter members share their skills and expertise in engineering, medicine and education, allowing us to utilize our internal resources and knowledge to reach students and design impactful programming. Because of the generosity of our members and funding partners, we awarded scholarships to students and provided them with hands on experience during our Chapter sponsored trips to universities, most whom had never visited a college campus. With our Chapter members assisting with college application and essays, several students were offered over $25,000 cumulative in funding from other various scholarship sources.
The impact of sharing materials not found in schools and learning through robotic, spheres, coding and critical thinking will have a long lasting impact on the students we engaged.
